Frequently Asked Questions

Does the American Eskimo shed?

The short answer is "Yes". The eskie is a moderate shedder for most of the year and should be brushed regularly. Once or twice per year they will "blow" their coat and shed heavily.

Is the American Eskimo hard to train?

The American Eskimo is intelligent and eager to please and is easy to train.

Do they bark a lot?

The American Eskimo has a reputation as a "doorbell" dog. They will tend to bark at anything unusual and need to be trained to respond to a command to be quiet. Making sure they have sufficient exercise will help them not to bark without reason.

Do they suffer from separation anxiety?

The American Eskimo likes to be with it's family and will not do well being left alone for long periods of time.

What are it's exercise requirements?

Your American Eskimo dog will need plenty of exercise and play time to keep it healthy and happy. As mentioned before, this breed is intelligent. If you don’t give your Eskie something to keep it occupied, it will find a destructive way to entertain itself.

How big do they grow?

We raise various sizes ranging from miniatures that mature at 15-20 lbs. to standard size that grow from 20-30 lbs.
